Mechanical Behaviour of the Lens Capsule
Research is underway on the development of a microstructural model for the lens capsule. This model is based on the microstructure of the collagen IV network that exists in the lens capsule.
Current research has shown that the performance of the model agrees well with recent mechanical tests on the capsule (Burd 2009). Further research is intended to incorporate the microstructural model in a finite element analysis of accommodation.
