Synopsis:

Guy Houlsby is Professor of Civil Engineering at Oxford University. His research interests are in geotechnical engineering, principally in the design of offshore foundations, in-situ testing, reinforced soil and tunnelling. He also works on the applications of numerical methods (both finite element analysis and other methods) to solution of geotechnical problems, and on the development of constitutive models for soils.

Much of his recent research has been applied to the area of marine renewable energy. He has carried out research on foundations for offshore wind turbines, and is currently working on the development of a novel tidal turbine for power generation.

His current research students are Oliver Cotter, Scott Draper, Ross McAdam and Richard Sandford.
